He’s My Son

Long brown eyelashes rest on his cheeks as he sleeps.  Peaceful he lay as I kiss him softly on his cheek. My fingers twirling his curly hair as I watch his chest rise and fall with each calming breath he takes.

I watch him as he sleeps. His red cheeks glowing. His fingers tightly curled around my thumb. Tracing the outline of his ear, I ever so softly whisper “love you to the moon and back always and forever”, quietly he stirs, a brief smile on his face.

I can’t help but wonder what his future holds. Many nights I do this “watching” as he sleeps, embracing all my hopes, fears and dreams … a mother of an only child, a fatherless child, I embrace my hopes, fears and dreams.

He is my son, he is my heart, he colors my world with childlike wonder and infinite love. Watching him as he sleeps, a gift too precious to compare…

I say a soft prayer, a mother’s prayer…

Beautiful post. I can hear the love behind the words.
