If you know me then you will know that I’m not the exercise type. Nah, I’d rather take a leisurely stroll on the beach, fall off a surfboard 20 times and enjoy the ocean stoke; no pressure!
Over the years (like ten years) I’ve picked up weight, lots of weight! And while I honestly don’t have an issue with my cellulite, stretch marks and wobbly bits and pieces, I’m not about to commit self-esteem suicide by strutting my stuff in a bikini on a crowded beach. Let’s be real…
But, in the same breath, I also must admit that I am concerned that my weight could have a huge impact on my health – I’m not worried about my looks, goodness gracious no; I’m worried about how my weight may be limiting my lifespan and the length of time I can spend doing fun outdoor things with my son. Fitness is nowhere in my vocabulary, at all!
Some nights I go to bed and I say to myself, “if I wake up at 5 then I can go to the gym for 40 minutes”. Then 5 am comes, I’m awake, I roll over and close my eyes; soaking up the blissful few minutes before I need to get out of bed.
I must confess thought, that a few years ago I went to gym religiously for a couple of months, but then summer came along and my sweaty hands just got in the way of me lifting weights, holding on to bars, etc. – ever heard of hyperhydrosis? Well I have it in my hands and it sucks gumballs!! Perhaps a topic for another day…
So yesterday a friend asked me to join her in a 30 day exercise challenge. I accepted even though I was upfront, not committing to complete it. I know I suck at this, committing to exercise. I know that I may get to day 5 and decide to hell with this structure, repetition and sweating my butt (and hands) off when I could be writing or doing other interesting things?
Well people, epic failed first attempt, as in just got out of bed first attempt, at some very basic exercises this morning!
The Squat Challenge
Beginners Push-Up Challenge
Yes, epic failed first attempt…so I’m logging off, getting dressed, going down to the beach for some FUN PLAY, which is exercise in my mind! Then I’m going to buy a chocolate banana pancake for my son and I to share while I pluck up the strength to continue with my 45 squats, 4 push-ups, 17 seconds plank and 20 crunches 🙂
Life is good no matter how I look at it. Yes, I suck at “formal” exercising, but I am amazing when it comes to walking on the beach, falling off a surfboard, keeping up with my son while he ride his bike, and I laugh at myself when I fall flat on my face after my first attempt at a push-up. Yes, life is awesome!
