A Date With Fate

fate/fāt/
noun
1 ) the development of events beyond a person’s control, regarded as determined by a supernatural power.
2) the three goddesses who preside over the birth and life of humans. Each person’s destiny was thought of as a thread spun, measured, and cut by the three Fates, Clotho, Lachesis, and Atropos.
verb
be destined to happen, turn out, or act in a particular way.

Reading up on the definition of fate, I find myself questioning whether it is possible for our believes to only truly develop as we mature and gain a better insight into life and the reasons for our presence on this earth?

Is the conception of a child far more than the sperms’ journey to penetrate and fertilize the egg, slowly moving its way through the fallopian tubes to implant in the uterus? “Your destiny is shaped according to the combination of conditions pre-determined at birth and other factors that you are able to change through your own efforts.” – The Essence of Buddha p.140

This, as I reflect upon the fact that my body consists of elements: oxygen, carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, calcium and phosphorus? Yet I have an unwavering spiritual self that cannot be described in these scientific terms?

Whilst I understand and accept my mortality, I am intrigued by this fate. The many full circle moments that I’ve had in my life where I can without a doubt say that everything that has happened in my life has led me to where I am today. Has shaped me to be the person that I am at this very moment in time. My destiny . . .

Fate, a life puzzle that continues to reshape itself with each piece fitting perfectly when I open myself up to the universe and the many lessons she has in-store for me.

My date with fate is the constant evolution of the self . . . as I embrace what this life has to offer – the good and the bad.
